Toy Yorkie Puppy Pajamas: Recheck Fit as Your Dog Grows

Choose dog pajamas that fit your Toy Yorkie puppy right now. Don't buy them big on purpose to leave room for growth. Pajamas that are too big can shift around, and a size that felt comfortable last month can start to feel tight.

The fix is simple. Measure your puppy today and compare the numbers with the size chart for the exact pajamas you want. Then measure again whenever growth or a change in fit makes you unsure about the size.

How to Choose Pajamas for Your Toy Yorkie Puppy Now

Start with two body measurements—chest and back length—and match them to the chart for the style you're buying. A breed label won't give you the size, and a size S in one design may not fit like a size S in another. Sizing guidance recommends choosing by the latest measurements, not by weight or breed alone.

  1. Measure the chest. Stand your puppy up. Wrap a soft tape snugly around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs. Measure over the coat without pressing it down, and don't add extra room. If you don't have a soft tape, use a string and lay it against a ruler.
  2. Measure back length. Run the tape along the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Leave the tail out.
  3. Add the chest allowance. Our general sizing guide compares garment chest with body chest plus 2.5 cm. Most US charts use inches, so here is the conversion: 2.5 ÷ 2.54 = 0.98 inches, or about 1 inch. For example, if a puppy measures 11 inches around the chest (an illustrative number), look for a garment chest of about 12 inches.
  4. Check coverage with back length. Back length tells you how much of the body the pajamas cover. It doesn't push the chest-based size up.
  5. Read the style's own chart. If your puppy falls between two sizes, we recommend the larger one.

As a general reference, our Everyday & warm wear chart lists these garment chest and back lengths: XS 12/8 in, S 14/10 in, M 16/12 in, L 18/14 in, XL 21/16 in, and XXL 23/18 in. Individual designs can be different, so check the chart on the product page before you order. For example, our Moon and Star pajamas come in X-small through XX-large, and you should confirm that style's own measurements first. If a product chart is missing, contact customer-service@fitwarm.com to ask if sizing details are available for that style.

Check the Fit on Your Puppy

When the pajamas are on, watch your puppy walk, sit, and lie down. You want all three to look comfortable. Our puppy growth guidance recommends the same check.

  • Movement: Your puppy walks, sits, and settles into a resting position without fighting the fabric.
  • Shifting: Pajamas bought oversized can slide or twist while your puppy moves. That's a sign the size is too big for now. Don't treat it as room to grow.
  • New tightness: If pajamas that used to fit now seem to restrict movement, don't trust the old size anymore.
  • Next step: If you see shifting or tightness, remeasure the chest and back length before you choose another size.

Model photos can help you judge cut and style, but size charts vs. model photos explains why your measurements should decide the size.

Recheck Measurements as Your Puppy Grows

Growth, new measurements, shifting, or a fit that has turned tight are all reasons to reassess. We don't set a calendar schedule. Instead, we recommend remeasuring a growing puppy before each order.

  1. Notice the trigger: an order coming up, a visible growth change, or pajamas that fit differently.
  2. Measure the chest and back length again, the same way as before.
  3. Add about 1 inch to the chest and compare it with the garment chest on that style's current chart. Use back length to check coverage.
  4. Choose the size those new numbers point to, even if it differs from what your puppy wore before.

FAQs

Can I size my puppy by weight if I can't measure the chest?

It's not the best choice. Our calculator can estimate chest size from weight, but it only gives a broad size range. A real chest measurement is much more accurate.

Do dog pajamas and dresses use the same chart?

No. Dresses use a different chart from pajamas, shirts, and cold-weather clothes. Always check the chart for the category you're buying.

Should I add a two-finger gap when measuring the chest?

For our charts, take the body measurement snugly and then add the 2.5 cm (about 1 inch) allowance. Adding a finger gap and then the allowance too could leave the pajamas looser than intended.

Will an adult-sized outfit fit my puppy later?

It may fit later, but you should not buy an oversized adult outfit now just to allow for growth. When your puppy is older, take new chest and back measurements and compare them with the current chart for the exact pajamas style.
